Based in the snowy foothills of the Laurentian Mountains, Little Misty is an indie-folk band founded in Montreal, Quebec, led by Kathryn Samman (vocals) and François Jalbert (guitar). With a strong focus on traditional folk styles, their repertoire also mixes in elements from indie rock and other genres of music. The result is a cinematic and easy-flowing combination of delicate and beautiful vocal harmonies with acoustic guitar, a beautiful arrangement for strings, and other roots-based cornerstones like banjo and double bass.
From their excellent 2023 release Nowhere Land, "Windmill" is presented here live from the Treehouse Music Collective and showcases the expressive power of a live ensemble—with help from Tommy Gauthier on violin, Cédric Dind-Lavoie on bass, Léandre Joly-Pelletier on banjo, and Mark Nelson on drums. After releasing their first, self-titled record in 2020, Nowhere Land is their much-anticipated follow up. This music is both alive and intoxicating, offering a rare and lovely glimpse into the vibrant support system that has sprung up over the decades to support folk-centric music in the northeast hub between Quebec, Vermont, and New York.
