As a native of the Washington, D.C. area, Sharp's work is guided by that scene's multi-genre link between soul, rock, R&B, funk, and hip-hop.
Messy bun like a beehive
Mascara like cat eyes
Dig her style, but her love was a losing game
She could middle man for an 8 ball
She would hold court at the strip mall
She wasn’t in it for the money
She wasn’t in it for the fame
Signed to Prescription Songs as a songwriter by his mentor, LunchMoney Lewis, Sharp's music has quickly evolved from conscious rap, and a crooner persona, to something much deeper, rooted in the mix of alpha stage presence and undeniable artistry that extends directly from the work of James Brown and Morris Day. Sensing this magnetism, in 2021, Citizen Cope invited Kenny to open for him at multiple shows at NYC's City Winery. Also in 2021, Kenny caught the attention of former President Barack Obama, who listed song "Witchoo" as one of his favorite tracks of the year.
Since then, Kenny's star has continued to rise, winning the coveted Music City Mayhem 2024 title of Champion from Nashville’s Lightning 100, after four rounds of grueling live competition. "Amy" encapsulates much of the excitement around this young performer: a subtle groove, a turn of phrase, and a sense that this musical moment is full of prestige and wonder.
