SWMRS have been quietly making albums and finding new fans with their high-energy indie-rock for the better part of a decade. The drummer is Joey Armstrong, son of Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, so the industry ties are strong, but hard work and commitment to the craft of songwriting are a major factor here.

On the 4th collective effort from this group of Berkeley punks with something to prove, and the 2nd from Warner Music Group label Fueled by Ramen, we get Berkeley’s On Fire: a brash and snappy document about life in the fast lane as a young somebody on the west coast.

I drank too much coffee and I didn’t eat breakfast

This bouncy pop number gives voice to that universal indignation of the under-appreciated, and the early setbacks that can feel insurmountable when it feels like no one is on your side. Too Much Coffee, streaming below as a live performance in the Vevo studio, extends the raw core of punk-rock into the stressed-out world of being a twenty-something right here, right now.

SWMRS (formerly Emily's Army), pronounced 'swimmers', is an American punk-rock band formed in Oakland, California in 2004. This song is featured on our Indie Rock playlist.
