Following another busy summer of festivals, including an incredible performance at Glastonbury, family acoustic-rock trio Wildwood Kin share the intimate second single from their self-titled sophomore album which will be released on the 4th of October. Beauty in Your Brokenness is an acoustic lament on the difficulties of self-acceptance, which was inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi - the idea that something becomes more beautiful for having been damaged or broken.
Wildwood Kin have an unusual gift for harmony, having spent much of their lives together building acoustic rock melodies, and celebrating music as a means of finding their way in the world. These 3 young ladies are dealing with the same challenges, triumphs and tragedies as the rest of us, while that sense of connection and love is captured on this song, and throughout a beautifully-reflective second album. Surely, this folk-pop delivery of a much-needed message of self-love for the youth of today will find the audience that needs to hear it. The simple power of the concept of kintsugi is the shift in paradigm that comes from total acceptance of the world around us. When we stop looking for what should be, and instead, allow everything to be what it is - somehow, everything becomes more vital. Beauty In Your Brokenness, the latest from Wildwood Kin, is a melodic call for that moment of clarity: we can only be who we are, as we are.
And we are, every one of us, beautiful.
You deserve more than you've settled for
you've given in one too many times
From the Band
Have you heard about kintsugi? It is a Japanese art where they take broken pottery and put it back together using lacquer, dusted with gold and silver powder, to make a unique piece of art with intricate patterns only the brokenness creates. It is a reminder that our imperfections, mishaps and tragedies shape us and make us who we are.
Wildwood Kin, the record, will be released on CD, vinyl and digital/streaming via Silvertone Records/Sony, and is available for pre-order now. This song is featured on our Roots Collection playlist.
