Idiot, the latest from Sure Sure, is a composition of indie and art-rock elements with some fuzzy synth bass over the chorus and a hint at the delicious harmonic complexity of Brian Wilson. It’s not too serious, it feels good, and it puts you right in the moment.

We get the feeling that there is something more to the story: there is an undercurrent of misanthropic sentiment, but only via a deeper sense of self-loathing. Within this landscape of emotional switchbacks, we arrive at an oasis of sharp humor and merry deflection.

“You like to sit on your throne
But you’re spinning out of control
I’m like a bad memory
I’ll never be what you want me to be”— Sure Sure

For the most part, the song shines happily inside a 4-part arrangement; no token flourishes necessary. Sure Sure infuses indie pop with a cerebral gleam and their signature freewheeling groove.

Sure Sure is an indie pop band from Los Angeles just tapped to support Young the Giant on their national tour next year. This song is featured on our CHILL NEW songwriters playlist.
