Joshua Worden released his last creation "Into Fog" in 2015, and never expected to spend four years on a follow-up. After getting married, buying and renovating a house, and building a recording studio in Atlanta, he's back with a new single that showcases his chilled-out blend of R&B, pop, and trip-hop grooves.
As Worden moves through the critical life-stages of marriage and home improvement he finds that his ideas are developing at a slower pace than before, as these new songs are the fruit of a long and deeply introspective period. Rich with the emotional complexity of true personal growth, Worden's new sound mixes smooth hip-hop beats with raw melodic intensity, while leveraging a counterpoint of vocal harmony and pop savvy that reminded me a bit of the great Joe Henry.
"Alright" has an immediate appeal that exposes a subtle, mid-tempo shuffle sparkling behind the acoustic drums, piano, and jazz-flavored guitar nuggets. By digging in with imagery and thoughts from recent experience, Worden provides a more personal canvas for his signature eclecticism. "Alright" also finds Worden exploring themes of chamber pop, as more orchestral elements sneak into the mix for the end sequence, and the lead-out bass performance brings the rhythm to the forefront for the final notes.
Joshua Worden’s music career brought him to Atlanta back in 2012. His academic background includes Jazz Guitar and English Literature.
