We've written about The Satellite Station before. Travis Rue is based in Ohio, and he is getting ready to release a new album. "Fine" is a teaser single from the new work, and finds Rue doing what he does best: wrapping introspective lyrics in layers of folk and chamber pop, with an ear for hummable melodies. Leveraging a gorgeous performance on the acoustic piano, this poignant track explores the idea of getting stuck living the same day over and over.
I guess I'm not fine
The dreams keep coming
And as the ghosts call
I just keep running
How do I break the wall
How do I reignite the light within my soul
'Cause I can't feel at all
It's like the joy has burned to fire like it's coal
This feels like a very modern thought experiment: as consumers, we have more choice than ever, but as citizens, and as individuals, the walls of social conscription can feel like they are closing in. "Fine" does a wonderful job of laying out that disparity, peppered with Rue's signature folk-inspired hooks and deep emotional resonance. Through his project The Satellite Station, Rue reinforces his reputation for intimate storytelling, while sharing his perspective on life and the challenges and joys of being human. We look forward to hearing more from this promising young songwriter.
