What I love about this song is that it originates in one of the oldest artistic memes that has ever existed for humanity; by that I mean, the impetus for this track is simply an attraction that is at once both frustrating, and inspiring. This tradition stretches back for millennia.
The question posed by "Glenn," the latest single from Toria Rainey, is one of interpretation. What exactly is going on here?
Glenn is an indie-pop ode to that one friend who never texts first, never overthinks, and somehow still has a permanent seat in your life.
My favorite part about this song is how organic that chorus feels, especially the first time you hear it. I have to go back to records from Parliament Funkadelic to find another slow burn like that, in terms of groove: takes forever to get the point, but still a party in your ears. This music is cheeky, it's deeply unserious, and it is delivered with just the perfect amount of vibe. With the surface attraction, & the inside jokes, this song tracks heavily with the infatuation mindset where someone has almost a complete love affair in their mind. And then it's over.
You're just a baby
Got no object permanence
