We've written about Thomas before, as part of the Bull Brothers. He is a folk and pop singer based in Britain, who is enamored with modern interpretations of traditional song. Bull's debut album, "A Fast Running Train Whistles Down," is a tribute to one of his greatest influences, the iconic Woody Guthrie. The album reimagines Guthrie's beloved songs for a new generation, and was a surprise hit: garnering national radio play this year on BBC 6 Music.
"Things Fall Apart" is a moody, bittersweet track inspired by W.B. Yeats' The Second Coming. Although it was not explicitly inspired by modern warfare, it captures the uneasy disquiet of turbulent times, and evokes a world teetering on the edge of disorder. Borrowing a bit from the apocalyptic imagery of Yeats himself, "Things Fall Apart" channels the ever-present attraction of chaos and uncertainty, and the uncomfortable truth that eventually, everything goes away. A Land Without Music will be released throughout 2025, with a full album release scheduled for later in the year.
We love the roots combination of acoustic guitar, mandolin, and slide, with a gorgeous performance from the rhythm section. This easy-going track will give your heart a little push in the right direction, as we come to terms with the realization that the only constant in this life is change.
Everybody knows it
The stars are falling from the sky tonight
Looking just like arrows
Set a fire and shot out of sight
