The Ruralists are back with another single, in anticipation of their 3rd release, EP 2 (also known as The Barney P). On this track, with his crackled tenor Luke Hawley tells the story of an intrepid and impudent undertaker who refuses to be overtaken by a familiar foe. Through this symbolism, we examine our own reluctance to accept the consequences of mortality.

With their signature blend of midwest roots and alt-Americana, The Ruralists endear us to the story of the band, revealing the power of circumstance to bring disparate cohorts together in service of a new direction and sense of spiritual authenticity. Though the track begins as a simple folk croon, the collective power of the full band is allowed to leave its mark. Your Bones Get Old, the latest from Iowan roots-rockers The Ruralists, is a statement about the true value of life, and a reminder that even infinite possibility doesn't last forever.

EP 2 is the 3rd release from Iowa indie band The Ruralists. They follow up last years acclaimed LP The Birth of Birds with a more live and stripped-down approach. The bulk of the album was recorded on a sunny October afternoon in Hawley's 100 year old barn, and again sent down to Benjamin Brodin of Omaha's ARC Studios fame for mixing. This song is featured on our CHILL NEW Songwriters playlist.
