I love that this song comes from New York City, it has that sophistication, and sleight-of-hand. For me, the trick is that this song presents itself as a sort of obscure soul-pop, B-side classic, Tarantino-soundtrack-style; but in truth, it's got a grittier, Interpol vibe to it. The bio says they draw influences from 'artists like Lana Del Rey, The Marías, Arctic Monkeys, and Mazzy Star.' So, it's a broad palette that we are pulling from. But the final kiss, so to speak, is one of danger. The persona of this protagonist has as much black widow as it does femme fatale.

Lead singer Anam-Cara O'Brien shares a note about the nature of it:

This song reflects on what it means to be both the spectacle and the observer.

With a sultry vibe, and a slinky midtempo groove – "The Show," latest single from New York City’s rising indie rock group The Girls Upstairs –delivers a combination of vintage synthpop and nightclub crooner mystique.

Are we tempted, or disaffected? Perhaps both.
