Idaho Country Roots Legend. - Pinto Bennett: I Like Singin the Blues in a Honky Tonk Song (music video)

Rings true as a testament to the roots music that Bennett has made all his life: not too complicated, full of heart, and gritty as hell.

From Idaho roots legend Pinto Bennett, we are treated to a classic honky tonk rambler that features backing vocals from Eilen Jewell. The music video for "I Like Singin' the Blues in a Honky Tonk Song" stars Buddy Devore, with cameos by Buddy’s pals and band, Pinto Bennett and Pinto’s band, family and friends, and features the 44 Club in Boise.

From the front porch to the local barroom jukebox, this song touches on the cordial vibe that makes Country music great. Sipping on a few cold ones, shooting billiards with a few pals, and passing the guitar around - these are all staples of American culture. A little bit of tack piano and lap-steel guitar round out this hometown classic, as an ode to simple pleasures and the company of old friends. Pinto Bennett has been writing 'hard country' songs since the 70s with his old band Tarwater; from hard drinking in Nashville with his buddies Lyle Lovett and Chet Atkins, to writing gospel songs from a sheep wagon in the desert; and finally returning home to Boise for his twilight years, Pinto Bennett has done it all, and then some. This track is featured on his 14th studio release 'The Last Saturday Night,' and rings true as a testament to the roots music that Bennett has made all his life: not too complicated, full of heart, and gritty as hell.

This song is featured on our Americana playlist. Details for this piece were pulled from here.
