Nathan Zanagar - Occupe Toi

Both heartfelt & poignant, weighing on the one hand, this universe of infinite childishness, against the way that we find strength in each other.

This is my favorite kind of track from a new singer-songwriter: it has a very distinct point of view, and the lyrics feel a little bit personal. And by singing in French, Zanagar leverages that nuance of association that the language of Molière does so well. "Occupe Toi" is, at once, both heartfelt & poignant, weighing on the one hand, this universe of infinite childishness, against the way that we find strength in each other. Yet, that process of discovery is itself quirky, and imperfect: thus the need for a song like this, that acts as a gentle reminder to never take for granted the things that are closest to you.

"Occupe Toi" is featured from Zanagar's upcoming EP "La Grande Salle," and features, once again, the creative diversity that has become a hallmark of his style. The reference I get here, is to someone like the great Joe Henry, mainly in the in terms of the way the lyrical persona really informs the production aesthetic.

It is as if Zanagar is able to balance his conflicting roles as producer, singer, and composer with effortless poise. His concerts have already taken him to some great venues around the world – in cities like Paris, New York, Copenhagen, & London. Here's hoping he makes it to the West coast so I can see him play.

Laisse courir ces p’tits idiots
Et donne-moi plutôt un peut d’eau
