My Mom Is Here - Woman

My Mom Is Here is the brainchild of Sam (vocalist) and Nick (pianist), who convinced their talented Columbia jazz pals into playing music with them on an NYC rooftop. Since then, they have been delivering impeccably produced songs that split the difference between The Tedeschi Trucks Band and Stevie Wonder. The groove is alive, the vocals are beautiful, and the rhythm section is about as good as it gets. Latest single "Woman" throws a nice arrangement for horns into the mix, recorded at a friend’s studio in Williamsburg. They have been on tour since August, stopping by a number of NPR affiliates on the way.

You're driving your big car
You're singing your love song
But wondering:
If it’s pretty, does it matter if it’s real?

With lyrics that explore the way that self criticism ripples outward, "Woman" offers a lighthearted respite from the debilitating second-guessing that goes hand-in-hand with a creative heart. It's fun, it's rhythmic, and probably sounds great echoing across the Manhattan skyline.
