With folk echoes that remind me a little of Chris Stills, Mike Edel lays down some smooth and easy roots-pop and claims some spiritual ground for the years ahead. His sense of melody and his production aesthetic are both balanced and rich, with a warm acoustic guitar and some smooth lead vocals. The thematic play is the question of where the line is: how old am I now, and where are my priorities? Is it ever too late to change course? Who decides?

It’s an important coming-of-age moment, giving yourself permission to be free to choose; and this is a fitting ode to that sense of both commitment and looming hardship. For a husband, and a parent: the road is hard but the joys are many.
