Matthew McNeal spent his summers working at a peach orchard a few miles outside of his hometown of Terrell, Texas. He got started with music, like many rural Americans, by playing in the church band. He soon became proficient in playing both guitar and drums. But he wasn't sure how to get to the next step, and it was a bit of luck that helped to push him along.

One day, I started talking music with a customer who was picking up a bushel of peaches. It turned out he was picking them up for an Aerosmith show he was working that night. He ended up asking if I’d be interested in working some shows as a runner. A few weeks later, I was working my first gig.

Having the chance to work behind the scenes with top-tier artists like Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC, Taylor Swift, Jay Z, and George Strait had opened Matthew's eyes to a whole new world of inspiration.

Now based in Fort Worth, McNeal and longtime collaborator/bandmate Andre Black make a living on the road, touring nationally as a duo and playing between 100-150 shows a year. Look out for a fifth studio album to be released later this year.

"Out of Time" was written and recorded by McNeal & Black, and finds them putting down a mid-tempo roots jam with a big bass line and some nice guitar licks. McNeal's vocals feel smooth and unforced, with a vibe that gives a nod to Kings of Leon while keeping one foot firmly in northeast Texas. This introspective track explores our relationship with time, and the work it can take just to live in the moment.

Recorded with Israel Nash's band at his studio Plum Creek Sound in the Texas hill country.
