MAJKEN - Don't lie to me

Something we often get from Swedish artists is truly sublime production quality, there must be something in the water over there. For the mix on this track, Majken tapped US maestro Peter Katis, who has done some high profile work for bands like The National and Interpol. What stands out here for me is the directness of the drum mix, which does a great job of providing a foundation for Majken's gospel-grunge sensibility. Blending electric guitar with classical harp, her style is both elusive and gritty, leveraging a beautiful vocal range against a glitchy, experimental aesthetic. The result positions her somewhere between Stereolab and Fiona Apple where drum machines, vocal samples, synthesizers, and even heavy distortion coexist happily alongside organic, handmade instruments.

Majken is a songwriter and musician based in Malmö, Sweden. Her new album "Korus" was just released at the end of last month. Look out for her dates on a UK/EU tour together with shoegaze champion Swirlies.
