Kaeley Jade is an award-winning Métis artist and folk-pop singer-songwriter from Edmonton, Alberta. Recorded with the Juno-nominated team at Velveteen Audio, "Years Ago" is her debut single and was inspired by her struggle to make the right decisions while navigating an especially difficult relationship.
As both visual and musical artist, Kaeley brings elements of each of her disciplines into her songwriting to create arrangements that are complex, layered, and insightful. "Years Ago" combines a nostalgic sense of romantic pragmatism with the knowledge that hearts change with every passing season. Love is timing, and love is also blind luck; we are better off knowing that a mysterious force of determinism will always have its way. Starting with a combination of electric guitar and electronic piano, and a driving pulse on the bass drum, we are immediately drawn to the warmth of Kaeley's voice. The arrangement is beautifully developed, with melodic hooks and falsetto lifts right where you want them. This debut offering from Kaeley Jade is both promising and unsurprising, as her exciting talent is already well-known in Canada where she was recently featured as a vocalist for the Edmonton Pops Orchestra.
Kaeley’s debut EP, Years Ago, is a spirited blend of folk-pop inspired by artists such as Vance Joy, The Lumineers, Brandi Carlile and Bahamas. This song is featured on our CHILL Angeles playlist.
