With a gorgeous falsetto lift, and a style of folk songwriting that reminds me a little bit of Aoife O'Donovan, Josefine Neumann impresses with a talent and mystique that pairs so well with the sound of cello. "chlorine" mixes orchestral elements with a very warm and endearing presence on the acoustic guitar, resulting in a set of very beautifully rendered performances across an assortment of instruments.

Josefine Neumann is a 17-year-old folk-inspired indie singer/songwriter and guitar player based out of Long Beach, CA. She taught herself to play guitar during the pandemic, started writing songs, and since 2023 has recorded 6 full-length albums of her original music in her home studio with no help from human, AI or auto tune.

Extra points for the multi-intrumentalism. The presence of that consistent hand on the different instruments really pulls this song together in a sort of ecstatic chamber pop, both raw and unfiltered. I also get the slightest hint of Thao & the Get Down Stay Down, which makes me smile. Josefine Neumann is on the right track with her musical projects, and we're just glad that she has an older brother to help her with her math homework, because math and music use the same language.
