We've covered Jenny Kern before — she is a Canadian-born, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter with a dreamy indie pop sound and a gorgeous lead vocal that always feels both effortless and inviting. With her latest track "Run," she offers us a preview of the upcoming EP that is set for release in the spring.

Paired with the impressive production efforts of Andy Seltzer, well-known for his work with Maggie Rogers and Chelsea Cutler, "Run" was written from the perspective of being alone, and the experience that Kern had last year as she struggled to support herself. As Jenny was forced to come to peace with her inner thoughts in the midst of a global pandemic, and the emotional isolation that comes with quarantine, she turned to her talent as a writer for a much-needed sense of spiritual solace and artistic redemption. With subtle layers of reverb and other vocal effects simmering behind the prominent acoustic piano, "Run" also brings in elements of retro-styled synth-pop: from the fuzzy, buttered-up bass line to the gated drum fills, this nuanced track explores a modern rock sound that borrows equally from electronic pop cohorts Valley and roots alchemists The Paper Kites.

Just this year, Kern has seen her music placed on several Spotify editorial playlists—including Fresh Finds, Indie All Stars, and New Music Friday, which collectively have well over 1 million followers. "Run" strikes a melancholic, introspective tone with a laid-back vibe that will resonate with anyone that spent their COVID year thinking too much about the things they couldn't change.
