We've been following Ian McFarland for a number of years. He is one of the hardest working songwriters in the indie rock / punk rock space right now. An alumnus of the Berklee College of Music, McFarland moved to New York in 2019 and jumpstarted his career as a songwriter and performer. After a now-infamous set at Pete's Candy Store, he fell in with the trio that he now tours with. This further empowered McFarland to showcase his versatility as a songwriter as he designed an energy and persona around the live show, and the deep connection between bandmates. As he continues to grow as an artist and delve deeper into his musical exploration, McFarland is equally passionate about delivering intimate solo performances, as well as high-energy shows with his band.
Ian McFarland is dedicated, single-minded, and very talented, and the genuine love he exudes for music is bound to take him to even greater heights.
Featured on the EP "Midnight Surgery," latest single "Every Day's a Saturday" finds McFarland pulling from a classic playbook: mixing thick, fuzzy guitar riffs with a snappy drum pocket and a hummable melodic hook.
Every day’s a Saturday
When the world's on fire again
Every day’s a Saturday
New lows are the new to expect
How much time can I spend with you
Before the fun becomes old news
Every day’s a Saturday
The way we just roll into the next
With an entire career spent at the intersection of indie rock and pop punk, McFarland has certainly earned the right to be considered a pioneer of the genre. "Every Day's a Saturday" offers a temporary respite from the humdrum of daily life, with a groove that mixes a happy-go-lucky vibe with a bit of urban grit.
