Gus Thompson is a musician and performer based in Philadelphia, with an eclectic vibe that brings together elements of chamber pop, folktronica, and straight roots. I get a slight hint of someone like Jake Whiskin, with a heavier nod in the direction of folk. His latest single "Empty Handed" is a clever bit of self-reflection, coupled with a sticky little riff on the acoustic guitar, layered over with Gus' own smooth vocal tone.

We explore our own habits of cognitively dissonant, alternating fantasies: noble solitude, or noble servanthood. A solid production aesthetic rounds out this midtempo banger, with a subtly magnificent arrangement for strings that picks up in the 2nd verse. Superb.

I lack emotion
My devotion
Is the past
Time moves slowly
Once was holy
Gone so fast
