Galean is the solo project of Rodrigo Agustin Lalli Galean, an Argentine artist formerly of the band Aloe. "Goza" is his second release of the year, and features a gorgeous contribution from Brazilian singer Luiza Brina. At once hypnotic, suave, and dignified, this jazz-adjacent candombe was written as an open invitation to enjoy Galean's broad appreciation for a variety of different styles—from the phrasings of Río de la Plata, to the native rhythms of Uruguay, to the underground pop of his home in Buenos Aires, and everywhere in between.
To wit, "Goza" celebrates the rich heritage of latin music while featuring an exceptional cast of musicians that includes Tiki Cantero on percussion, Juano Sarda Lerotich on guitar, China Roldán on piano, Edú Gabriel on bass and Machingo Russo on trombone. The collaboration with Brina was born as a nod to multiculturalism. The final product is much more than that, having grown through the creative process into a symbol of freedom itself: matching a beautiful and light acoustic piano with Tambourim, hand percussion, and melodic interludes that are nothing short of magical and rapturous.
I decided to record together with musicians who understood the Latin American flash and thus would be able to capture the essence of what I imagined. After several comings and goings, I met Luiza Brina, an artist from Mina Gerais with whom we decided to collaborate together in an attempt to build bridges and erase borders. — Galean
