It's been a while since we wrote about EMM, and with her new album "Black Diamond" out this month, we wanted to check back in and see how she's doing. Still breaking barriers and following her truth, that's for sure. But don't take it from me:

BLACK DIAMOND is a visceral statement—designed to challenge, provoke, and expose the unconscious biases that shape the way we view women, power, and faith.

What I see here is what I remember seeing last time–which was six years ago–that this music is giving voice to a whole range of emotions that women have not traditionally accessed through mainstream society: emasculation, rage, alpha energy. This is a blueprint to access those things, for anyone who cares to listen to the lyrics. Strong women already have plenty of heroes, but it never hurts to have another. I think EMM deserves to be recognized for delivering an 'unapologetic, camp infused exploration of power & gender bias' in a way that feels accessible, powerful, and dare I say it, sexy.
