It's like Elvis Costello trotted out his teenage emo self and stumbled into a bar in New Orleans. The acoustic guitar strums it through like a 2-stroke engine and the electric bass skips over the bog. That lead guitar kicks up a foot and riffs with a beer in one hand. The band chemistry is in full effect when the barroom piano pops in towards the end; the party is over but you can always hit play again.

The chord progression is complex, with the walking bass giving rise to some dark and ominous triads. The slight shuffle and the bluegrass-inspired flatpicking on the dirty electric guitar come together in a very raw and introspective style.

Denim Gorgeous is an indie folk and rock project based in New Orleans.
