Carter James is an independent songwriter and producer based in Boston, Massachusetts. As a recording artist, they specialize in electronic pop music for which they've already caught a number of writing credits, production credits, and listener streams (16 million just on Spotify). After two independent EP's, and some success with posting content online, James signed their first record deal with Universal Music Group in 2020 for debut single "Time." The spectrum ranges from piano ballad to a sorcerous electronic trance, while also mixing in bits of hyperpop and indie dance. Waves of interconnected vocal melodies wash over electronic robot riffs and assorted percussion, to polytonal and polyrhythmic perfection. The vocal presence is at times both perfectly human and intensely psychedelic, providing an emotional narrative simply from the changes in vocal effect.
