Alternative pop artist carolesdaughter drops newest single "violent" across all platforms, along with a captivating lyric video that finds her styled in goth, wearing a black spiked necklace, scissors in hand as she slices through an array of teddy bears.
With a sound that might remind you of flora cash, carolesdaughter mixes elements of acoustic pop with a heavy vocal mix and a dark, ethereal vibe. Following up on the success of "cold bathroom floor" and "my mother wants me dead," for her new track carolesdaughter conjures up a vengeful motif that is obscured by a soft and sweet vocal delivery. Although officially released today, “violent” has already struck a chord - it was recently uploaded to Soundcloud, and quickly racked up more than two million streams.
I was in a toxic relationship when I wrote it. I was just fed up, and I released it. It was a real moment. I guess people recognize it. — carolesdaughter
This 18-year-old singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Southern California was born Thea Taylor, the youngest of ten kids born to educator parents. Thea shared a passion for music with her siblings, singing together and teaching one another piano. An outsider since birth, Thea shuffled in and out of middle school, spending seventh grade and eighth grade in home school, and eventually attended five different high schools before dropping out. After researching Black Flag online, and unlocking the worlds of punk, hardcore, and goth, her musical influences now range from E.L.O., The Doors, and The Carpenters to Christian Death, Crystal Castles, Rico Nasty, Jinjer, and Lil Peep.
Around the same time, she started doing drugs, falling down a rabbit hole and taking multiple trips to rehab. On her last trip to rehab, which lasted 6 months, she decided to bring a guitar with her. The rest is history.
This is carolesdaughter's first release after recently signing to Arista Records / Sony Music Entertainment. She chose the name carolesdaughter in honor of her mom Carole.
