Bernardo - Go Blue

Sonia Bernardo is an alt-soul and jazz vocalist, guitarist, and producer from West London. Latest single "Go Blue" features some of London's most in-demand musical talent, including Skinny Pelembe, Dave Maclean (Django Django), Luke Wynter (Nubyan Twist / Roller Trio) and Oscar Robertson (Sunglasses For Jaws).

Born in London to Portuguese parents, before being uprooted and moved to a tiny village in rural Portugal, Bernardo started writing music at the age of 10. From her vantage point in Portugal, it was natural to immerse herself in Fado, a form of traditional music with roots in both jazz and folk that emphasizes a sort of institutional type of melancholy. Elements of this socio-poetic orthodoxy took root in the London music scene, which attracted Sonia, as a rebellious teenager, back to her place of birth.

Debut EP Panic Prayers, released on cassette and digitally in 2019, soon connected with audiences in Europe. Her latest single "Go Blue" leads off her new full-length album "Secrets of Six-Figure Women," and continues to flaunt her deep love for the power of melody delivered over a foundation of inspired groove. Here, Sonia Bernardo blends the slow burn of a Bossa nova with psychedelic soul, forging an enigmatic commentary on the dynamism of romantic attraction.

Came for the secrets
Stayed for the snacks
And I hoped to give you up
I hoped to win you back
