Amelie Lucille is a 17 year old singer-songwriter from New York. Her clear, flawless vocal delivery reminds me a bit of Laura Marling, and her latest single "Polar" is a good demonstration of why her passionate original music has been resonating with fans from the East Coast, and around the world. As a frequent performer at the legendary Bitter End, via The Urban Garage series, Amelie has been channeling her love of artists like Etta James, Bjork, and Norah Jones into a powerful stage presence and musical point of view.
I'm falling for the wrong guy
He's just what I've made him to be in my mind
The mystery is what he won't say
And since he left the silence stayed
But life takes time
I'd rush right in
If it meant you'd be mine
As a student at famous LaGuardia High School, Amelie Lucille's attraction to music started at 7 years old with Christmas-gifted piano lessons. Since then, her work as a songwriter and performer has continued to evolve. With a gorgeous addition of cello to this folk-driven mix, "Polar" touches on a kind of bittersweet chamber pop. The 3/4 time signature offers a gentle sway to the sense of nostalgia, and poetic self-exploration, while the whispered falsetto contributes a beautiful element of tenderness.
We will be keeping an eye on this promising young artist.
