UK pop star Alfie Templeman was born in 2003 to a musical family in Bedfordshire. Alfie's father was an avid collector of guitars and his older sister played piano—so it wasn't long before Templeman began playing himself. He started with drum lessons, but soon gravitated toward guitar. By the age of 13 he had taught himself how to use recording software and produce his own tracks.
At first, Alfie recorded only instrumentals, but his mother persuaded him to take singing lessons which opened the door to writing full compositions. In 2018, he had already put together his debut EP, Like an Animal, which was released on the Chess Club label. "Everybody’s Gonna Love Somebody" extends Templeman's reputation for exploring a dance-friendly aesthetic by tapping a groove that borrows as much from classic New Wave as it does modern electro-pop. This bouncy anthem to carefree existence is a preview from next month's mini-album release, "Forever Isn’t Long Enough."
Written, performed, and produced entirely by Templeman in his bedroom, "Everybody’s Gonna Love Somebody" mixes sultry sax lines with popping guitar rhythms, and leads the way for the most polished collection of songs he's ever made.
I first wrote and recorded "Everybody’s Gonna Love Somebody" back in 2017 when I was 14 years old and it’s been ingrained in my memory ever since. I’d always go back to it and try to re-record it but I could never quite get it right - then I went on a Tears For Fears binge and realized that it needed that "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" kind of production. — Alfie Templeman
With an impressive 105k Instagram followers since his first post in 2019, over 1 million monthly Spotify listeners, and a cumulative streaming figure of over 50 million, Aflie Templeman has come a long way since the release of his debut track "Like An Animal."
