We've written about Abigail Fierce before – she is a young and talented artist working in Los Angeles as both an actress and songwriter. The last time we wrote about her was a couple years back in support of her song Pitch Dark: a beautiful mid-tempo ballad about falling in love, in a coffee shop, during a thunderstorm.

Recent single "14 Cigarettes" is a worthy follow-up, borrowing a similar cadence on the electric guitar to explore the aftermath of a failed relationship, fraught with images of heartbreak and missed opportunity. Abigail says the song was inspired by her love for vintage things, a ex-girlfriend who had a 1965 Mustang, & a real-life trip to the desert wherein an argument led to erratic driving, flawed communication, and the dread that ensues when red flags become a bonfire of apprehension.

Weaving her favorite genres together to make something unique, Abigail Fierce draws liberally from her personal connection to the music of Taylor Swift and Courtney Love. "14 Cigarettes" steps us through the stages of emotional trauma when a relationship self-destructs and we move from denial, to nostalgia, and inevitably to self blame. What resonates for me here is the unmistakable mark of authenticity, along with a pop aesthetic that is both roots driven and deliberately enigmatic.
