Kay Slice was born in Ghana, and has since relocated to Rotterdam. His debut in 2021 was the album "From Back to Back," which evolved as the result of a voyage to his homeland that helped to form him as both an artist and a person. Kay combines the musical traditions of Ghana with the East Coast style of hip hop that he loved going up in the Netherlands.

Since then, he has continued to drop new music, and today we are proud to present his latest release "Yessika." This circular drum groove includes a gorgeous, mariachi-adjacent horn arrangement while splitting the difference between roots-flavored hip-hop and a style of Afrobeat that might remind you of Fela Kuti. The music video for this syncopated shuffle is directed by Fidelio Faustino and celebrates a black cast of characters.

Showing up unannounced at the doorstep of a man who is down on his luck, the taxman aims to collect a debt owed to the government. An unexpected twist occurs when he proposes a unique solution to resolve the situation. Kay Slice continues to breathe new life into the unique and soulful hip-hop that has made him a household name in his native Rotterdam.
