Jake Knox grew up in the white suburbs of DC as an adopted Colombian kid, and learned some deep lessons early in life about handling love, race issues, and overcoming self hate. "Breaking up with Dreams," his latest single, is a song about being a Pisces that explores a series of true-life break-up stories, and in doing so, drops a little wisdom about how a hopeless romantic navigates life.

With a sound that mixes edgy hip hop grooves with a bouncy style of electro-pop, "Breaking up with Dreams" is a song that makes a case for the idea that missed connections are just another chance to get it right. The elements of this song come together as a sort of support structure, a way of staying grounded and on task in a world of broken ambition and flakey personalities. People are fragmented, and inconsistent, and this track from Jake Knox is here to pick you up when the text doesn't come. Heartbreak might be a fact of life, but you don't have to let it get you down.

I just got a big heart, yeah you know
People get lost and pretend that they don't
People get stuck in the bars
And crushed by the walls
And make it so they cannot fly

Jake Knox partnered with JPatt from the EDM duo The Knocks for his sophomore record "Breaking up with Dreams," which will be released later this year. This song is featured on our CHILL Angeles playlist.
