Grace Gillespie - Lady Make Believe

The falsetto vocal here seems to pour just a little sleep-dust over every one of those lifts, creating a sort of dream-sequence and a chance for the band to shine.

A very purposeful sense of dynamics and a heavy flanger effect on the main hook gives this a few whispers of psychedelic artistry, and a strong framework of Folk and dream-pop showcase an exceptional sense of melody. The falsetto vocal here seems to pour just a little sleep-dust over every one of those lifts, creating a sort of dream-sequence and a chance for the band to shine.

Lyrically, Grace Gillespie is able to create an altered self, and with so much originality and confidence in this follow-up work to her debut release ‘Restoration’, Lady Make Believe may be her most successful incarnation yet. It's a mysterious and cynical mix between Dark Side of the Moon and Adrianne Lenker.

Grace Gillespie is a London-based artist and producer originally from Devon. This song is featured on our Rainy Day playlist.
