Freddy & Francine - Half A Mind

It's a soul-pop summer hit with the classic trappings of a roots track: clean pentatonic riffs on the guitar, big harmonies, and a singalong chorus.

I love the throwback vibe here: it goes back to the heart of Soul and the original impetus for Rock and Roll. Maybe music has not changed at all, because it's always been about personality, and transferring emotion 'to tape', as they used to say. The vocal aura here jumps off the speakers, the duet is enormous and it's not often that the voices are so good they can carry the entire arrangement.

It's a sweet song about taking chances, and being yourself, and embracing imperfection. But you won't care because you'll be too busy humming along. It's a soul-pop summer hit with the classic trappings of a roots track: clean pentatonic riffs on the guitar, big harmonies, and a singalong chorus.

Freddy & Francine are classically trained singers who blend Soul, Pop, Folk, and Americana. This song is featured on our Roots Collection playlist.
