The slow build here is so committed, so eternal, and when the groove kicks in, the control and sparsity of the drum performance is stunning. With just a few parts: the guitar, the bass, the drums, the electric piano, and of course that vocal, Frank Bell builds a truly exceptional arrangement using the same tricks a live band uses: coordinated syncopation between parts, building tension by staggering the instruments, and a raw impassioned quality to the vocal that ties it all together.
Every sound, every note, makes a mark: from the small notes on the piano, to the dynamic swell of the bass and the inflections from the lead vocal. Counter-intuitively, with less to listen to, the more you hear. It's a gorgeous lento ballad about love and making the most of each moment.
