Colin Stetson’s blistering new track "Contact" is from the upcoming score for HP Lovecraft’s Color Out of Space, starring none other than Nicolas Cage. His groundbreaking talent for scoring is sought-after by musicians like Bon Iver and Arcade Fire, as well as software studios like Rockstar Games for their recent and widely-popular title Red Dead Redemption 2.

Stetson's astounding physical engagement with his instruments - chiefly bass and alto saxophones - produces emotionally-rich and polyphonic compositions that test the boundaries of what solo horn playing can sound like. His intense technical prowess is matched only by his exhilarating and emotionally-gripping skills as a songwriter. Stetson’s first major project as a band leader was released as the flagship album on his own record label, 52Hz, in a collaboration with Kartel Music Group (UK). He is a tireless musical innovator, as attuned to the world of avant-garde jazz as he is well-versed in the peculiarities of minimalist music and contemporary electronics. His techniques with circular breathing and embouchure are legendary, and he enjoys the well-deserved spotlight of a truly unique and irreplaceable contributor to the evolution of modern orchestral music. "Contact" is a suspenseful and dynamic combination of woodwind and string, crushed by the unyielding force of synthetic, modulated sound.

Colin Stetson was born and raised in Ann Arbor, spent some time in San Francisco and Brooklyn honing his talents, and eventually settled in Montreal. This song is featured on our Ambient playlist.
