With a deep background in music performance and production, classically-trained Carter Jnr. has a vocal range and writing style that is both pop-friendly and emotionally complex. Holding On is about the idea that we are all struggling to keep it together, and how that plays out in terms of perspective: things always look a little different from the other side.

Moving towards the indie-folk sound of an act like Mumford & Sons, the sound here is a compelling mix of introspective melody and spontaneous inspiration, as we are at once celebrating the current moment, and our own freedom from the confines of the past.

Flames spark into life and there’s a fire in the city tonight

Holding On, the latest from Carter Jnr., is a gentle and poignant look at the sacrifices we make in the name of love.

Carter Jnr., aka Sam McNeill, was born in Sydney and lives in London. This song is featured on our Roots Collection playlist.
