Toronto-based duo aiwake share the new video for Tonight (Sundown), via Majestic Casual, which takes the viewer on a journey through the depths of aiwake's live performance and lays bare the vulnerability of the duo's songwriting. Here, the band elevates what the live session could be, by reimagining it with a one-take story.

Tonight (Sundown) is the moody and multifaceted exploration of how musicians create live synergy in a world where acoustic drums are replaced by Native Instruments, yet there is still a convalescent baby-grand tucked away in a living room across the street. We get a feeling for the muted blues and reds of Toronto at night, while aiwake channel feelings of despair and melancholy, alongside a wistful sense of hope. It is as if the old-guard of smoky jazz-club performance is currently yielding to an electronic watershed of urban renewal and beat-sequencing, and while the backdrop of what consists of artistic purity molts before our very eyes, the primary colors of melody and groove shift not at all. The result is a deeply personal and satisfying look at these luminaries of indie-electronic when we extend what is possible in the context of a single camera shot. Tonight (Sundown) is both a symbolic statement about the importance of timing and authenticity, and a voyeuristic look at the life of aiwake.

aiwake is the Toronto-based duo that consists of Dorian Voos and Euan Robertson. This song is featured on our CHILL NEW Songwriters playlist.
