After years working full-time in Portland performing with The Portland Country Underground, and others, while also supporting tours with The Dandy Warhols and The Decemberists, Beck decided to go back to grad school. His studies eventually took him to Paris which is where he wrote many of the songs that make up First Flight.
Back in New York after completing his studies, Beck plugged himself into the local scene with his elements of late 70s country rock and cosmic Americana. The result is a chance meeting between life, poetry, and folk music, fusing the roots-pocket of an acoustic guitar and backing band with Hammond B3 and Beck’s gravelly baritone. The Long Way Home is an ode to the wandering spirit that promises the best is yet to come.
I take the long way home
To see how far I’ve gone
And how much there still is to know
Working with Vanity Sound engineers and producers Myles Turney and Joel Arnow, Beck’s ninth studio album First Flight was recorded in various locations in and around New York. Building on his country and Americana roots, First Flight sees Beck explore expansive soundscapes and moments of great intimacy. First Flight is widely available June 7th.
