So, just a quick note to any young musicians out there that are looking for a sound. I'm not saying you should imitate this band. What I am saying is that you should listen, and appreciate the fact that this is what an original persona sounds like. Someone a little more steeped in the dark arts of heavy guitar bands might find a few more references here, but even my Indie brain can match this to bands like Land of Talk, or GAWJUSS, or some old-school Jane's Addiction, or any number of rock bands that love to throw around a riff or two. But beyond that, the energy is straight-up sexy, and the hint of a British drawl just puts this over the top for me (so you're never gonna stop the lawff--tehh). It is 'just so' in the best possible way: top production, a kick-ass beat, and a dynamic arrangement. Yes, please.

Released by Fat Dracula Records, "Laughter" from UK band Slung is a teaser from the upcoming May release of their debut album 'In Ways.' This 'trauma-fueled, ribcage-rattling' burner takes on the emotional phenomenon of evolving past your parents. It's a blistering anthem for the rebellious instinct in your life.

This song is about a face-off that’s been a long time coming, and the difficult relationships we can have with members of our family, especially our parents. When we’re children we’re so desperate for our parents' attention and approval that their dismissal or rejection can feel agonizing. With an emotionally absent parent, trying desperately to earn love or consideration from someone who isn’t capable of giving it can be so destructive. This hurt can often develop into resentment as we age and we may even later villainize this person, wanting to fight, confront, defeat them.

A tight-knit crew of the formerly gifted and talented, Slung is one the UK's hottest new bands. Their sonic universe matches the power of guitarist Ali Johnson with vocalist Katie Oldham's star power and a rock-solid rhythm section from bassist Vlad Matveikov and drummer Ravi Martin. Together they represent the opening arc of a musical supernova, and the list of references is long: from artists like Deftones and Baroness, to Wednesday and MJ Lenderman, to Queens of the Stone Age, and perhaps even a sprinkling of Chappell Roan and Fleetwood Mac.
