Goodbye, Louisiana, the latest from Rookin, is a wistful look at personal history, as a way of associating important events with the character of a certain location. It’s a kind of weather, a kind of person, and a certain way of life that we are saying goodbye to.

Draped in a pulse-forward folk-pop affect, with an acoustic guitar as our guide, and a Dylan-style harmonica to open the phrases, we are immediately drawn in to the mid-tempo energy. It’s a whispered lead vocal, hidden just beneath the equilibrium of the remaining elements, so that we must listen that much harder. It is the beautiful and endearing resolution to a chapter of life, presented here as a blend of folk, rock, and soul.
