We've written about Oh He Dead before, they are a fun-loving band from Washington DC with a talent for writing unique and modern indie pop. Their new track "Bottle It Up" is about capturing the fleeting thrill and nervous excitement of a new love that you know isn't going to last. This bubbly jam features a mix of slow funk and high-energy soul that puts the groove front and center while showcasing the smooth vocal chemistry between co-lead singers Cynthia "CJ" Johnson and Andy Valenti.
In the throes of a fresh puppy love singer Andy caught himself jamming to happy pop tunes that he typically wouldn't like. Intoxicated by his own upbeat positivity, he found himself humming a catchy new melody in the shower. Soon after, the chorus was born as he grabbed his phone, opened Voice Memos, and recorded the hook without even bothering to dry off. With help from CJ and Claire—their manager—the verses came into focus along a theme of love addiction and the frantic need to preserve that moment of rapture.
Leading with the main vocal hook, "Bottle It Up" sets a restless tone that mirrors the early days of a romance: when moments of separation feel like days, and lovers can't bear to be apart. With a recent sold-out show at DC's own 930 Club and a headline set at this year's Telluride Jazz Festival, Oh He Dead's star is definitely on the rise. Just press play and get ready to enjoy another gem from DC's latest soul-pop sensation.
"Bottle It Up" was recorded in Nashville in 2019 during the pandemic at Red Giraffe Studio with Emmy-nominated Engineer Jimmy Mansfield and producer Paul Rogers.
