Josephine Wiggs’ new single Time Does Not Bring Relief is reminiscent of the experimentalism of Brian Eno’s Another Green World and recalls the delicate minimalism of Harold Budd. Tonally, the meeting between acoustic piano and electronic beats is a mesmerizing one, benefiting from equal parts melody and dark polytonalism.

As we are given prismatic, visual inversions of aquatic life, flora, and faunae, we also meet with the circularity of the musical progression, and we experience the turbulent crosstalk between diatonic harmony, explorative chord-extensions, and psychedelic imagery. With no lyrics to arrest the narrative, we are left with empty symbols, ready to be filled with our own sense of longing, or perturbation, or fear. From her new single Time Does Not Bring Relief, Wiggs gives us the feeling that nothing is resolved: much like life, we are nudged endlessly towards the next moment, each one alternating between beauty and pain, supported only by the shifting sands of perception and context. It is an inspired visual test for your limbic brain, and an effective mirror for your emotional state: however you feel about life, this song will amplify that emotion.
