For some time now Jake Huffman has been writing and performing his unique brand of jazz-adjacent independent rock, finding early success with his band McLovins and their YouTube cover of Phish’s "You Enjoy Myself"—recorded from his parents' basement in Connecticut. Over the years he has refined his sound while leaving an imprint as composer and lyricist for Sesame Street, as well as writing writing dozens of songs for artists like Ed Sheeran and Leon Bridges.

Latest track "Martyr" offers a bright melody right up front, with a shimmering guitar riff tucked just behind the mix of electronic and indie rock elements. His mastery of dynamics and creative arrangements is obvious as this anthemic track presents a sound that is both untamed and ferocious. A soaring chorus, layers of vocal doubling, and fuzzy analog synth come together to showcase how far Huffman has come since his days crafting yacht rock with a nod to Steely Dan. The vibe now is closer to the sound of Twenty One Pilots and Cage the Elephant, with Jake Huffman delivering memorable work as a triple-threat songwriter, producer, and performer.
