Brought together by chance originally as a laid-back weekly jam, these five musicians soon found themselves recording tracks together in a hot garage studio, just a couple of miles from the beach in Los Angeles. With a range of styles that encompasses blues, funk, folk rock, and indie pop, the sonic chemistry is vibrant and undeniable: History Kids delivers a fresh mix of eclectic rhythms, fuzzy guitar hooks, and rich, seething vocal harmonies.
Sharing a mutual admiration for the text-infused artwork of Los Angeles artist Ed Ruscha, this talented group of musical professionals found their name in the title of an Ed Ruscha lithograph. With his blessing, "History Kids" was born. Joining contributions from singer Zoë Poledouris, guitarist Warren Nelson, organist Rob Derba, and bassist Eric Klerks, along with drummer/producer Angel Roché Jr., the groove is deep and conjures images of red wine, yachts, and warm pacific breezes. "Can You Save Me" brings together an energetic pulse with a yearning, rock-fueled breakdown that in turn flows back into a crescendo of intimate melody and dynamic percussion. The luscious self-titled EP is available for streaming on Spotify or Soundcloud, and is full of singalong choruses and casual-cool, SoCal vibes.
