Nostalgic Shoegaze from Missoula Celebrates Coming of Age. - Icarus Phoenix: Anthem feat. Josaleigh Pollett

Icarus Phoenix is an indie rock band from Missoula, Montana with a sound that incorporates elements of shoegaze, paisley underground, and classic indie pop. Their sonic aesthetic plays extremes against each other — from modern to retro, at once both gentle and aggressive.
As they prepare to release their second album on Sep 10th this year, they have been releasing new singles every month. "Anthem" features a Lego-driven music video that achieves a wonderful sense of narrative and pathos, made entirely by Drew's young nephew. At the intersection of Star Wars, Clockwork Orange, and Harry Potter — among many other cultural touchpoints included here — "Anthem" celebrates that transitional moment of youth where every moment is both terrible and awesome. At its core, this warm and inviting track exudes a delicate combination of awe and trepidation, capturing perfectly the transformation from teenager to twenty-something and the seeping anguish of being forced to figure out life the hard way.

When Drew was forced to move out of state because of the modern housing exodus, the band, true to it's name, was re-formed with new members. Track their schedule of shows here.
