Formed last year in the high desert of Bishop, California, songwriting couple Dorota Szuta and Stelth Ulvang—of The Lumineers—teamed up with Blind Pilot drummer Ryan Dobrowski to create Heavy Gus. The instant chemistry between them culminated in a live recording session at one of Nashville’s oldest studios: Creative Workshop.

"Do We Have to Talk" comes from their debut album "Notions," a spacious and intimate rock record that promises to be both vulnerable and captivating. As Dobrowski lays down the groove, Ulvang provides instrumental embellishments, and Dorota delivers a lush finish with electric guitar and a warm, lyrical vocal presence. With a sonic aesthetic that contrasts the dry California heat against the coolness of a desert spring, tempered by a roots-flavored Nashville twang, this blend of gritty retro-rock and west-coast surf is sure to leave you better than you were.
