We've been following Hansom Ēli for a number of years now. Something about their production aesthetic fits just right into the CHILLFILTR® sweet zone: there's always a nice groove, solid lyrics that are often bilingual between French and English, which I enjoy; as well as solid melodies, and a handcrafted vibe that feels like a friend whispering in your ear. The overall sound is super authentic, light, and just fun.

The latest single "If Time" continues that tradition, blending elements of folk, R&B, and funk into something that feels unique. Composed of siblings Alexy and Camille, this performance duo from Montreal has built an impressive résumé for themselves over just the past 7 years. They've been funded through FACTOR, Canada Arts Council, SOCAN Foundation, and more, and they have partnered with the largest booking agency in Quebec, performing in festivals and venues all around the province.

Now we find Hansom Ēli gearing up for yet another festival season, and "If Time" is the single du jour. In her inimitable way, Camille takes us through the mindset and the challenges inherent to the experience of being a woman, playing by a set of rules made by men. With that signature, soft soprano, she shows us how far there is left to go.

Tu m’emprunte et en fait la tienne
This song addresses the experience of women in a male-dominated world. It highlights how men appropriate ideas that are not theirs, ignore our presence, and only show respect when we assert ourselves. Through the song, the woman reclaims power by denouncing these behaviors and reaffirming her place.
