Firewoodisland is the Bristol-based collaboration between multi-instrumentalists and songwriters Stian Vedøy and Abi Eleri, originally from Norway and Wales. With a driving kick drum and percussive string section, "Sprinter" is a motivational and melodic anthem that fuses emotional empathy with raw, positive energy.
Positioned as a paean to personal redemption that arrives just in time for the new year, this song focuses on someone who has gone through a hard time, and is just getting ready some rebirth. A series of high-profile shows in 2019 - including performances at Øya Festival, Between The Trees, Farmfest, and Oxjam Cardiff Takeover - along with support from tastemakers like Alex Rainbird Music, BBC Radio, and Norway’s NRK P3, have created a buzz around the music of Stian and Abi. "Sprinter" offers a gift to thrill-seeking music-lovers around the world with an exhilarating blend of violin, trumpet lines, synthesizers, and acoustic guitar.
Stian grew up on Karmøy, a west-coast island in Norway, and studied music production. The name Firewoodisland is a direct translation of his surname, and although the project started out as a solo-act, Stian eventually met Abi in Cardiff where she was studying illustration. The two soon paired up to form the band, while Abi soon took over artwork duties in order to showcase her mesmerizing illustrations. An atmospheric soundscape, beautiful vocal harmonies, and a heartfelt message of encouragement transform "Sprinter" into an uplifting narrative about finding your true self, and never giving up.
